Your normal web works exactly as it does now: search, news, email, shopping, all of it, nothing to switch and nothing to give up. The FreeholdIP Browser just adds a second web alongside it: one where your address, your page, your mailbox and your payments are property you bought instead of services you rent. Here's what that means in practice, and you can see some of it live from this very page.
1 · A name like yourname.alg works just like a .com:
you type it into the browser's address bar and a page loads. The difference is where the name lives.
A .com is an entry in a registrar's database that you rent by the year; stop paying, or
upset them, and it stops being yours. A .alg is a record on a public
blockchain, a shared list of who owns what that anyone can read and nobody can quietly
edit, and you buy it once.
2 · A “key” is just a long secret number the browser creates and looks after for you. Whoever holds a name's key controls the name. That is precisely why no company can take it back, and also why the key is the one thing worth guarding. You never memorise it or type it: it sits in an encrypted vault on your own machine, and 24 recovery words rebuild it if that computer dies. The browser even lets you run a drill on those words and watch it prove the name is yours. Most people never find out whether their backup works until the day it has to.
3 · You pay with an ordinary card. There is no cryptocurrency to buy, no wallet to install, no coins to hold. You pick a name, pay at a normal checkout, and the name is put on the blockchain for you.
Everywhere else: your web address is a rental. Stop paying the yearly fee, or displease the registrar, and it's gone.
With FreeholdIP: the name is yours the way your car is yours: bought once, held by your own key, with no company standing between you and it. It can't be edited, deleted, or taken from you. No renewal, no landlord. The browser even watches the public record and raises an alarm if your name's ownership ever changes.
Everywhere else: a website needs a host, an inbox needs a provider, payments need PayPal: four companies, four logins.
With FreeholdIP: your name IS the website, the mailbox, the payment address and
the phone number, all at once. Tell someone yourname.alg and you have told them
everything. These are real names, owned today. They live on Algorand and resolve
natively in the FreeholdIP Browser, with no extension and no gateway. The links below open

That last one is worth a moment: it is not ours, it is not on Algorand, and the page you land on is served by a public gateway we do not run. The Browser resolves it natively all the same, because an owned name is owned property wherever it lives, not a feature of our service.
Everywhere else: messages live on a company's server, tied to your phone number, readable by whoever runs it.
With FreeholdIP: you message a NAME, and the message is sealed to that name's key, so only its owner can open it. There is no account and no phone number because the name IS the identity, and it is a public one you own: your key signs every message, so whoever receives it can prove it came from you.
Everywhere else: voice and video mean a Zoom link, a Google account, a phone plan, and someone in the middle.
With FreeholdIP: call a name. Voice and video go straight between the two of you, end to end, proven by the same keys that prove who owns the name. No sign-up, and a call only rings between two people who have already accepted each other as contacts.
Everywhere else: taking money online means onboarding with a processor and handing out account numbers.
With FreeholdIP: type pay yourname.alg in the browser and it finds
the owner's payment address, cryptographically theirs, and no one else can substitute one. That's
ALGO out of the box, and cards work the honest way: the owner adds a checkout link
(PayPal, Stripe, Square, Venmo, Cash App) signed by their own key, so a buyer KNOWS
the link is really the merchant's: a fake-payment-link defense no other browser offers, and it's
live today. Card details go to the processor, never to us.
Everywhere else: the padlock only proves you're connected to a server. It says nothing about whether the content is genuine.
With FreeholdIP: the browser verifies the content itself: pages arrive with cryptographic proof they are exactly what the owner published. Profile links earn a ✓ only when the linked page provably points back, checked by YOUR browser, not by us.
Everywhere else: hosting is rent. Stop paying, your site disappears.

What you publish is a static site: plain pages,
images and files, with no server programs and no database behind it. That is why there is
nothing to hack, and why any computer that has the files can serve them.
Visitors on the FreeholdIP Browser reach your site at your name itself, with no server of ours in the
loop. Everyone else reaches it in any ordinary browser through its public gateway link, which does
route through our server, but ours is never the only possible door: every published site has a
content address in its public record, and pasting it onto any public IPFS gateway,
ipfs.io/ipfs/<your content address>, serves the same files.

And the honest part
Because that's the brand: the ordinary web works completely normally in the FreeholdIP Browser: search, news, shopping, all of it. The owned web is the bonus, and it plays by physics, not promises: a site pinned free on your own computer is online while that computer is (one checkbox keeps it online around the clock, or one payment puts it on our nodes). And “our nodes” isn't one machine in a closet; it's a cluster, each node in constant conversation with hundreds of others around the world, so your content always has somewhere to come from even when any single machine goes dark. The browser tells you which is which, every time.
One absence is deliberate: the browser has no password manager and will never offer to save a login. It stores no secrets except the ones it exists to protect: the keys to your names, credentials and recovery, and it injects nothing into the pages you visit, which is part of why it's safe. For everyday website passwords, run a dedicated manager beside it (Bitwarden is free and open-source): strong, unique, encrypted passwords everywhere, and nothing about them ever touches us.
“Why should I trust a browser with my keys?”
The right question, and the answer isn't “because we promise.” It's that we built ourselves out of the critical path, and you can check every part of that claim yourself:
✓ Your keys never leave your computer. They're made there and stay there. We could not hand over your name if we were asked to. We don't have it.
✓ Ownership is proven against the public record, not our word. Anyone can look up who owns a name without asking us, using tools we don't run. The browser's recovery drill rebuilds your name from your own backup with FreeholdIP treated as switched off.
✓ Every page is checked on your own machine against the fingerprint its owner published, so even a server we control can't hand you a doctored page without your browser noticing.
✓ Every file we're paid to keep online has its fingerprint published openly, so you (or anyone) can put a copy somewhere else at any time. Storage here is a convenience you can walk away from, never a hostage.
✓ The browser is built to outlive us. That's a design requirement, not a slogan: names live on public blockchains and pages live on a public network, so if this company vanished tomorrow your name and your site would still resolve. Where that promise has limits, we say so plainly; see “And the honest part” above.
